August 15-30 2010, I travelled to Dominican Republic on a Mission Trip.
Dominican Republic is usually known for its nice beaches; nice holiday
resorts, but in this same country is where many live on less than £1 day,
where many live in shacks made out of sticks, old metal containers.
Before I set off for this mission Trip, I had to do a lot of fundraising, that would enable me to make an impact in the lives of the people in D.R when I get there.
I did various activities to raise so money like selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts, BBQ together, Morrisons and Tesco bag packing, akso had generous donations from friends and families.
It costs about £2500 to build a house in D.R, myself and the team where able to raise money that would give three families new houses of there own. The families where so grateful that even words could not express their gratitude towards how they felt and still could not believe they were getting houses and they do not even have to pay for.
We got the opportunity to paint a whole school, visit a public hospital and give out Hospital aid, go to schools to give out equipments, go to a village to give over 100 families food, go to village to give over 200 children gifts,we had the opportunity to play with the kids and they absolutely loved it, we had the opportunity to put big smiles on many peoples faces.
I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that sponsored me, to everyone that encouraged me.
I would also like to encourage everyone to do whatever they can to help their community, to help the world, because there are millions of people die out there simply because they do not have the same opportunities that we do. We should not take our lives for granted, but rather be grateful and support one another.
